Permanent exhibitions of different countries

There are also other permanent exhibitions at the site of the Auschwitz I camp. Some were set up on the initiative of the former prisoners from various countries who belong to the International Auschwitz Committee. Their intention was to raise awareness and educate the public about the Nazi occupation in the countries from which transports were sent to Auschwitz, and to show what happened to the citizens of those countries. The first such exhibition opened in 1960 and others followed.

Over the years some of the exhibitions were closed down, and others were partly or entirely modified. At present the following exhibitions are open to the public:

  • "The Suffering, Struggle, and Destruction of the Jews, 1933-1945";
  • "The Struggle and Suffering of the Poles, 1939-1945";
  • The exhibition titled "The Destruction of the European Roma";
  • "The Tragedy of the Jews of Slovakia";
  • "Czech Prisoners in Auschwitz Concentration Camp,"
  • “The Citizen Betrayed – The Memory of Holocaust Victims from Hungary”
  • “Deportees from France to Auschwitz Concentration Camp”
