The transit camp (Durchgangslager) referred to by the prisoners as "Mexico" was located here. Construction was begun at the end of 1943 and suspended in April 1944. More than ten thousand Jewish women were held in the unfinished camp, frequently without any shelter, from June to October 1944. Some of them were put to death in the gas chambers, some were transferred to the camp designated as
BIIc in October 1944, and some were transported to other camps located in the depths of Germany. In October 1944, the camp authorities ordered the dismantling of the barracks, which were shipped to Gross-Rosen concentration camp.
