Sector BIIf

The camp "hospital." Allied photograph, 1944.

Sick male prisoners were placed in this part of the camp from July 1943 until January 1945. It was called the "camp hospital" (Häftlingskrankenbau). Prisoners referred to it as the antechamber to the crematorium, since the majority of the patients sent to the "hospital" died. Frequent selections were held here, with seriously ill patients being put to death. SS physicians also carried out criminal medical experiments here.
